Rummu

Rummu (German: Rumm ) is a village ( alevik ) in the municipality of Lääne-Harju (until 2017 Vasalemma ) in the Estonian district of Harju . It has 3532 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2000).

Murru prison

Rummu was home to one of Estonia's five prisons, the infamous Murru vangla . Approximately 1,600 offenders were held in it, including some sentenced to life imprisonment. The oldest part of the prison was built in 1949 by the Soviet occupation authorities. The prison was last operated by the public corporation AS Eesti Vanglatööstus .

economy

Rummu is also known for the quarrying of limestone and a gravel works .
