The round fountain on Palaisplatz is a fountain system in Dresden's Inner New Town , located as the central system on Palaisplatz .

history

The area around the Dutch Palace (later referred to as the Japanese Palace ) was designed in 1722/23 on the city side, the large square (Palaisplatz) was laid out and the 26-meter-wide Königstrasse was laid out to the Black Gate . After the traffic routes around the square were regulated in 1894, the design of the square was supplemented by a garden. Across from the Japanese Palace, a central round fountain was planned, which was also executed in 1898 after a cost estimate of February 21, 1898 in the amount of 24,800 marks was submitted.

The air raids on Dresden in 1945 damaged the fountain, which was only put back into operation after renovations in the 1950s. The water system was redesigned in 1979 and converted according to the current water pattern and converted from the drinking water supply to circulation with various pump systems. Further renovations followed in 1991 and 1992, with the nozzle and distributor technology being adapted to modern standards, and the pump shaft renewed. The basin was sealed again in 2006.

description

It lies in the center of the central, triangular and paved area of the Palaisplatz, which is extended to the north towards the Akzisehaus by an unsealed, tree-lined park. The round fountain has an inside diameter of 21.6 meters (total water area 366.25 m²). The fountain basin, the edge of the pool and the adjacent step platform are made of granite. The water pattern has been changed several times: Originally, the fountain was only adorned with an 8-10 meter high central jet. Later, 34 smaller fountains directed towards the edge of the pool were arranged around a 10 meter high fountain. The water image has been created by 41 nozzles since 1979:

  • Middle fountain: a Geiser 60 fountain, 10 meters high, water delivery 380 liters per minute,
  • Small ring: 10 fountains of the Geiser 40 type, 5 meters high, water pumping 163 liters per minute and
  • Outer ring: 30 parabolic Geiser 20 fountains, 2.5 meters high, pumping 55 liters per minute.

The three rings have been operated by three circulation pumps since the reconstruction in 1991/92, and Geiser nozzles were also installed to reduce water consumption. The latter was also served by raising the pool floor and installing a wind control. Five underwater spotlights were installed for evening lighting.
