The RundfunkWiki was a German-language subject-specific online encyclopedia on the subject of radio . It was launched in October 2005 by Kai Münz and used MediaWiki, the same content management system as Wikipedia . Instead of the Wikipedia “globe”, the frequency scale of a historical radio receiver shaped the appearance of the pages. The project was discontinued on October 12, 2010.

Content and profile

The non-commercially operated and ad-free RundfunkWiki could both under rundfunkwiki.de and under radiowiki.de be called. It provided information on the topics of radio, technology , the history of radio , radio stations , journalistic work and other terms relevant to broadcasting . The information was available to everyone, editing and creating new articles required registration with a valid e-mail address. Imported Wikipedia articles were marked with a license template and were often further processed and expanded after the import. There were no binding relevance criteria for newly created articles. B. also considered pure Internet stations.

At the end of August 2010 the wiki had 3,246 articles in 19 main categories and 347 registered users, including the moderators Tondose , Sdr3 and SQUelcher . There were only a few editing rules for contributing authors; Wikipedia was referred to as an editing aid. Until recently, fundamental issues were discussed such as B. the treatment of web radios or meaningful redirects.

Suspension of the project

Both domains are offline. The operator Kai Münz justified the discontinuation of the encyclopedia with chargeable warnings, hostility and lack of time. Münz offered to make the database available for a continuation of the project; the main domain was online for this purpose until at least 2015. However, there was no restart.
