Runic stones from Sjonhem
The rune stones from Sjonhem on the Swedish island of Gotland ( G 134 and G 135) are two almost identical rune stones in the form of Gotland stones made of limestone with mostly marginal rune inscriptions in a serpentine ribbon. Both stones are damaged in the upper area so that the snake heads (if they were shown) are missing. The stones are now in Gotland's Fornsal in Visby .
G 134
G 134 is one of the Varangian rune stones and tells of the same family as the stones G 135 and G 136. The stone was created in the elaborate ornamentation of the Gotland rune stone style in the 11th century. The colorful, mushroom-shaped picture stone was set up by Rodvisl and Rodälv in memory of Rodfos, who was treacherously killed by Wallachians while visiting Wallachia .
G 135
G 135 is one of the Baltic Sea rune stones and tells of the same family as the stones G 134 and G 136. The stone was created in the elaborate ornamentation of the Gotland rune stone style in the 11th century. The colorful, mushroom-shaped picture stone was erected in memory of a man who died in Ventspils in Latvia . If you sail east from Gotland, Ventspils (Eng. Windau) in Courland was the closest port and a popular place for Gotlanders traveling on trade.
