Varangian rune stones is a name for rune stones in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, which mention people who were and died in the Kievan Rus , the Byzantine Empire , Georgia or generally “across the Baltic or Finland, in the east”.

Over 130 rune stones are divided into seven groups, analogous to the distinctive words used: Baltic Sea (concerning the Baltic States and Finland - 14 stones), England (30), Greece (30), Hakon Jarl (3), Italy (2 ), Ingvar (26) and about 30 Varangian rune stones (relating to Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and neighboring areas), of which there are also a few in Denmark and Norway.
