Axala rune block

The runic block of Axala in the parish of Björnlunda in Södermanland in Sweden bears the runic inscription Sö 2 ( Swedish Södermanlands runinskrifter 2 ).

The rune block ( Swedish Runblocket ) is located in the forest right next to Eriksgata (road 223). It measures approximately 3.0 × 2.5 meters and is 3.0 meters high. The scoring on the east-southeast side is 1.6 meters high and 1.1 meters wide. The font height is 9-10 cm.

The inscription reads: Slode and Ragnfrid had the stone carved after Igulbjörn, their son. Help Christ his spirit.

Slode and Ragnfrid have a second stone carved in honor of their son. It is the rune stone Sö 141, which is about 10 km away in situ near Aspa. Both stones were probably created by the rune master Torer.
