The rune stone M 5 (also called Attmarstenen or Great Runestone from Attmar ) is a rune stone next to the entrance to the cemetery at the church of Attmar in the parish of Attmar, less than 100 m from Lake Marmen in Medelpad in Sweden . Right next to it is the smaller rune stone fragment M 4.

The medieval stone made of granite is 2.25 m high and 102 cm wide. It was discovered at Attmarby in 1875 with the runes down; its origin is indefinite.

It is interesting that the woman's name Altrud can only be found on this stone and on the Bergastenen (M 3) in Njurunda, about 20 kilometers from Attmar. On stone M 5 Altrud is the mother of the two brothers Håkon / Håkan and Skygne, while on M 3 she is the daughter of the couple for whom the stone was set; possibly both stones refer to the same Altrud. Since Håkon / Håkan is mentioned on two other stones near Attmar (M 6 in Målsta and M 7 in Tuna), four generations of the family of Altrud and Håkon / Håkan could be sketched.

The inscription in the rune stone style Pr2 is in two serpentine bands, which surround a paw cross in the middle . It reads: “Håkan made this stone in memory of Skygne, his brother, and in memory of Altrud, his mother. God and the Mother of God help their soul. "
