Runestone of Sele

The Runestone Sele comes from the farm Sele in Kleppe in Sola , west of Stavanger in the Fylke Rogaland in Norway . The original location of the rune stone found in the early 19th century is unknown. Today it is in the Archaeological Museum in Stavanger.

The stone is about 1.5 meters long, 30 cm wide and 10 cm thick. It ends at the top in a rounded point. The runes are on one of the broad sides with an inscription in two lines. The rune stone probably dates from the early Middle Ages around 1100 AD and tells of land and possible fishing rights.

The runic inscription, which as an exception was not struck for a dead man, reads: "The agreement that was written on this stone proves that half of the Sele River belongs."

To the north lies the Treudd of Dødssnødjo .
