Skälby rune stones

The rune stones from Skälby ( Samnordisk runtextdatabas U 88 and U 89) are two rune stones standing next to each other in the district of Skälby in the municipality of Järfälla in Uppland in Sweden .

U 88 is a rune stone made of light gray gneiss . It is about 110 cm high, 80 cm wide and 30 cm thick. The rune height is 7.0 to 10.0 cm. In the 17th century the stones were in a circle of smaller round stones. During the 19th century the stone was used as a threshold in Lindal and then disappeared for a while, but was found at Skälby Farm in 1938. It was set up next to U 89.

The text reads: "sḅialbuþi: ok: uni: liṭu: raistu: stain: at · ṭiþkuma: ikiþoru"

"Spjallbode and Uni had this stone built for Tidkume, Ingetoras (man)."

U 89 is a rune stone made of coarse granite and a smooth surface. It is about 132 cm high, 50 cm wide and 40 cm thick. The rune height is 7.0 to 9.0 cm. In the 17th century the stones were in a circle of smaller round stones. The incision is well preserved. The missing piece is already missing in the oldest pictures from the 17th century. U 88 was set up next to him.

The inscription reads: "· helka · ok · ulmfris · l - u · raisa · st-- · þi… - · ulfast · faþur ·· sen"

"Helga and Holmfrid had this stone built for Holmfast, their father."

In his four-volume Atlantica ( Atland eller Manheim, Atlantica sive Manheim, vera Japheti posterorum sedes et patria ), Olof Rudbeck the Elder (1630–1702) led an imaginative reading of the carving to support the idea of a Nordic cult of Isis .
