Runic Games was an American development studio from Seattle and emerged from the development team of Flagship Studios . The founding members of the company included the brothers Max and Erich Schaefer , who are best known for Diablo , and Travis Baldree ( Fate Development). Matt Uelmen , who is known for his work at Blizzard Entertainment , is responsible for the composition and music . In 2009, the action role-playing game Torchlight was published as the first game , the successor Torchlight II followed in September 2012. In November 2017, it was announced that the studio was closed.

history

The company was founded in August 2008 by Travis Baldree, Max Schaefer, Erich Schaefer and Peter Hu. After the game studio Flagship Studios was closed , all 14 employees of the Seattle-based team developing the Mythos game moved to Runic Games.

After the eleven-month development phase of the game Torchlight from November 2008, the game was released on October 27, 2009 as a download . The development team then began working on an MMORPG for Torchlight , which was postponed indefinitely in favor of Torchlight II . The current status of the project is unclear.

In May 2010, the Chinese software publisher Perfect World acquired a majority stake in Runic Games for $ 8.4 million.

In March 2014, founding members Travis Baldree and Erich Schaefer left the company to set up a new development studio, Double Damage Games. The office of President, which Travis Baldree has held since the founding of Runic Games, took over the previous Vice President Marsh Lefler.

On November 3rd, 2017 it was announced that Perfect World has closed the studio.
