history

Established in July 2003

In July 2003, shortly after Bill Roper , the brothers Max and Erich Schaefer and David Brevik, whose names were associated with successful game titles such as Warcraft , StarCraft and, above all, Diablo , left the game developer Blizzard Entertainment , which was in a phase of reorganization and was offered for sale by Vivendi Universal , they founded Flagship Studios and announced the development of their first computer game, the title of which, Hellgate: London , was announced in April 2005.

Cooperation and Development

Publisher for Hellgate: London were Electronic Arts and Namco Bandai Games America Inc. for the USA, North America and Europe . Namco, until then only active in the console sector, wanted to enter the PC game market with the cooperation, but rejected this plan in the middle the development phase, so that the Flagship Studios were forced to found another part of the company called Ping0 , which u. a. the network connection for Hellgate: London and the account management had to take over. The game developer and publisher HanbitSoft took over the marketing in South Korea .

On December 14, 2006 the founding of the subsidiary Flagship Seattle was announced, which was commissioned with the joint venture Ping0 to implement an online platform for Hellgate: London . The game Mythos , which is under development, served as a test platform. The development of Hellgate: London was called on 17 October 2007 as completed. The online platform for Hellgate: London was officially released on October 31, 2007.

Closing in July 2008

The first rumors about the closure of the flagship studios surfaced in mid-July 2008. In mid-August, Max Schaefer, co-founder of Flagship Studios , confirmed that the company was practically closed. Flagship CEO Bill Roper and a few other employees would only handle legal and financial tasks. The flagship studios would then also be legally closed .

The reasons given for the closure were financial problems that prevented further development. Bill Roper and Max Schaefer cited the premature publication of Hellgate: London and wrong decisions by the management of the flagship studios as reasons for the financial problems , which were also caused by problems with their cooperation partners.
