The Letov Š-18 aircraft is a single-engine, two-seat biplane that was developed in Czechoslovakia as a training aircraft .

history

The first flight of the machine took place in 1925. The construction came from Alois Šmolík . The machine was quite successful and sold well to private owners and also to aviation clubs. In addition to the basic version, there was also the Š-118 , which was equipped with a Walter NZ-85 (63 kW). Some machines were exported to Bulgaria . They were also used by the Czechoslovak Air Force as a beginner's training aircraft from 1925 to 1930.

A complete redesign of the airframe led to the Š-218 , the fuselage of which was a tubular steel construction. The first flight of this type, equipped with a Walter NZ-120 (88 kW), took place in 1926.

In 1930/31 ten Š-218 machines were exported to Finland . Another series of 29 machines was built there under license, which - equipped with a 110 kW Bramo star engine - could reach a top speed of 154 km / h.

construction

The landing gear was rigid and had a tail skid. The original version had a wooden hull. The wings were braced and braced with N-handles.
