The Letov Š-4 aircraft is a single-engine, single-seat biplane that was developed as a fighter aircraft.

development

The first flight of the machine took place in 1922. The construction was carried out by Alois Šmolík . The machine was designed in a wood-metal composite construction and had only one pilot's seat. The machine guns were pointed straight ahead.

The machine was very similar to the SPAD S.XIII , but did not have its outstanding properties. The round engine fairing was characteristic of both models.

A total of 20 pieces of the series version were produced and delivered to the Czechoslovak Army . Of these 20 pieces, some were created directly as the advanced training aircraft Letov Š-4a . Because the Letov Š-4 model was ultimately unsatisfactory in use, all the machines were gradually converted into training aircraft.
