The Letov Š-8 aircraft is a single-engine, single-seat shoulder - wing aircraft that was developed as a racing aircraft. The first flight of the machine took place in 1923. The construction was carried out by Alois Šmolík .

development

The machine was characterized by a good aerodynamic design. A newly designed ring cooler with the round engine cover around the engine, which is characteristic of this model, did not yet show the expected effectiveness and was initially supplemented by two additional coolers on the chassis struts. Soon, however, there was a possibility of redesigning the ring cooler and the additional coolers disappeared again. The sample performed very well for its time. It was therefore used in several air races between 1923 and 1926, but was ultimately unsuccessful.

The wing was supported by long I-legs that began on the landing gear and ended at about 2/3 of the wing length.
