Runtingerhaus

The Runtingerhaus is a historic building in the old town of Regensburg and one of the oldest and best-preserved patrician houses . The early Gothic stepped gable house was built in the middle of the 13th century and is located in today's Keplerstraße 1. It was the ancestral seat of the Runtinger merchant family, one of the wealthiest merchants in Regensburg in the 14th century, since 1367.

history

The oldest origin of the building with a stepped gable and crenellated attic goes back to a tower from 1200. There is a draw well in the courtyard. From the 16th century the building was used as an inn, but it fell into disrepair and was divided into numerous small apartments in the 19th century. The well-known expressionist Josef Achmann rented one of these apartments as a studio from 1908 to 1911. In 1978 the building was extensively renovated.

Today the Regensburg City Archives are housed in the building. The branch of the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments was also located here until 2007, but was then relocated to the Royal Villa . The 200 m² historical ballroom can be rented for events. The city archive also contains the Runtinger family's trading book with business entries from 1383 to 1407, which is the most important German merchant book of the Middle Ages.
