Ruota (unit)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ruota , the wheel, was an Italian measure in Piedmont with its capital Turin for measuring the amount of water flowing out of a specified opening in a unit of time. The opening was the size of a square foot and was called Piede lipranto quadrato . The outflow time was set to 24 hours. The height of the water level above the outflow opening was important.

In Milan , the measure of the amount of water was called Oncia Magistrale. In other regions the names and the individual parameters differed from those mentioned here. In Bergamo it was called Oncia, in Brescia and Verona Quadretto. In Verona, the rules of measurement were laid down in a treaty from 1764.
