Rupert Butler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rupert Butler (born January 18, 1933 ) is an English journalist who deals particularly with the time of National Socialism in Germany. His 1983 book " Legions of Death " is well known. In this he states, among other things, that the commandant of the Auschwitz concentration camp, Rudolf Höß , had been tortured before he testified about the extermination of Jews there, who were also used in the Nuremberg trial against the main war criminals . Although Butler writes in the anti-Nazi sense, this book and this passage are cited by historical revisionists as a source to deny the fact that the Jews were exterminated in Auschwitz because they were brought about under torture. The Holocaust Reference homepage also states that Butler's book “does not have a high level of evidential value” because it “largely refrains from verifying allegations through references”. In the above cited reference, Nizkor describes Butler's book as "lurid". His books appear in English and some are translated into other languages.
