Ruprecht Zwirner

Ruprecht Zwirner (born November 29, 1929 in Berlin ; † July 9, 2010 ) was a German surgeon and medical professional politician .

Life

Ruprecht Zwirner was born in Berlin in 1929 as the son of Eberhard Zwirner and his wife Irmgard, née Hammerschmidt. His brother is the gallery owner Rudolf Zwirner . After graduating from the Gaußschule in Braunschweig , he studied medicine in Freiburg im Breisgau from 1950 to 1956. After working as a medical assistant in Freiburg, Meßkirch / Baden and Böhl-Iggelheim, as well as a doctorate to Dr. med. in 1958 (topic of the dissertation: Contribution to the innervation of the larynx ) he was from 1958 to 1962 a scientific assistant at the Anatomical Institute of the University of Freiburg. That year he went to the Medical Faculty of the University of Hue in what was then South Vietnam, headed by Horst-Günther Krainick , to teach anatomy. During this time he photographed the faculty there - his photos are currently the only known image documents of the Federal Republic of Germany's first development aid project in Vietnam. He then completed his training as a surgeon until 1969 in Freiburg and Lörrach. Under Ernst Kern he became senior physician in Lörrach. From 1969 to 1974, following Ernst Kern to Würzburg, he was senior physician at the Surgical University Clinic in Würzburg, where he completed his habilitation in 1972 in surgery.

From 1974 until his retirement in December 1994 Ruprecht Zwirner was a private lecturer and headed the surgical department of the Donaueschingen district hospital as chief physician. From 1982 to 1999 he was Vice President of the District Medical Association of South Baden.
