The steam locomotives of the Russian class Ы [ jɪˈrɨ ], (in German class Y ) were a series of Russian freight train steam locomotives. They were created on the basis of the Russian series Baureihe , but were less weight than this series. The steam locomotives were used on railway lines with a light profile. They were originally procured for the railway line from Armavir to Tuapse , which was only designed for an axle load of 15 t.

They were designed as two-cylinder composite steam locomotives . The first locomotives were delivered by the Kolomna Locomotive Factory in 1910. A year later Kolomna developed the further developed series Ы Ч from the series . These machines were the first compound steam locomotives on the railways of the Russian Empire to be fitted with a superheater . The locomotives were considered to be the most powerful Russian compound steam locomotives. At the same time, they turned out to be the most economical Russian freight locomotives with the lowest steam consumption. In the period that followed, the design was mainly ordered by smaller private railways with a weaker superstructure. For in Karelia lying Olonez Railroad Kolomna 1914 to 1915 provided one as a simple two-cylinder engine running without bond machine variant as a series Ы р in 14 copies. In total, around 350 units of the Ы series, including all variants, were built in the Kolomna and Votkinsk locomotive factories.

Most of the steam locomotives of this series were retired from 1955 to 1957.
