Ruth Mayer

Ruth Mayer (* 1965 in Berlin ) is a German Americanist .

Mayer studied from 1984 at the LMU Munich, then at the University College in London and from 1987 to 1991 at the FU Berlin. There she obtained an MA and in 1994 a Ph.D. with a thesis on Herman Melville and Nathaniel Hawthorne . In 1994 and 1995 she taught at the John F. Kennedy Institute for American Studies in Berlin. From 1995 she was Assistant Professor for American Studies at the University of Cologne and, after her habilitation, moved to the University of Hanover in 2000. Since December 15, 2001, she has been Professor of American Studies and Director of the English Department at the University of Hanover . Her main research interests are diaspora , globalization , the relationship between science and culture studies, cultural and literary theories.
