Building at Rynek 14 in Lublin

The building at Rynek 14 is located in the historic old town of Lublin in Poland , more precisely: on the market square . The house consists of two separate parts, which can be identified by the different facade design.

history

In the 14th century there were probably two wooden houses on brick foundations at this point. These two wooden houses were replaced by a single-storey stone building in the 15th century. In 1639 this building was extended to the second floor. The old plaster was removed in 1938 and brick motifs were exposed. At this time the sgraffito was also attached with the scene of St. George fighting the dragon. In the recess above was the Lublin coat of arms. This was designed by Jan Wodyński and Borys Borkowski. The renovation work was led by Szczęsny Felicjan Kowarski. During the work, lintels from the second half of the 15th century were exposed. However, there is no guarantee that the Gothic lintels are in situ or that they were added later. This was partly the case with other renovations under the time of Józef Edward Dutkiewicz . The renovation was completed in 1954. The separate parts of the house were highlighted by the different facade design. The part of the building at the corner was given smooth plaster. The other part of the building was decorated with sgraffito, which shows three figurative depictions of scenes on the first floor of the fire being extinguished. On the second floor above there are sgraffito with brick motifs with depictions of flowers. A Gothic lintel was retained in the facade of both parts of the building.
