Building at Rynek 2 in Lublin

The building at Rynek 2 is located in the historic old town of Lublin in Poland , more precisely: on the market square . The Polish writer and poet Sebastian Fabian Klonowic († 1602) lived in this house .

history

In the 16th century, there were two buildings each made of brick and wood at the site of today's classicist building. Towards the end of the 16th century these were converted into two two-story houses. At that time a building was owned by Jan Wiślicki, who later became Sebastian Klonowic's father-in-law. Sebastian Klonowic was a writer, councilor of Lublin and in 1600 also mayor of Lublin. Due to the fact that he lived in this house, it is also called the Klonowic's house . In 1785, both buildings on the property belonged to banker David Hayzler. He converted both buildings and created the classicist facade. The top floor is marked MDCCLXXXV (1785) on the surrounding wall . The building was renovated between 1936 and 1939. The sgraffito decorations by Jan Wodyński date from this period . The decorations show flower garlands and medallions depicting Wincenty Pol , Jan Kochanowski , Mikołaj Rej and Biernat from Lublin . On the top floor between the windows there are heraldic cartouches. During a renovation at the beginning of the 21st century, an inscription was restored on the ground floor. The inscription reads DOM ONGI SEBASTIANA KLONOWICZA "ACERN" AUTORA FLISA ODN. RP 1939 and means The House of Sebastian Klonowic "Acern" the author of Flis, RIP 1939 . Since the inscription was not in line with the 10th anniversary of the People's Republic of Poland , it was removed in 1954.
