The building at Rynek 8 is located in the historic old town of Lublin in Poland , more precisely: on the market square . The construction of the building is linked to the former mayor of Lublin, Mikołaj Lubomelski, a confidante of King Alexander .
history
After Mikołaj Lubomelski died around 1528, the building was rebuilt by his son Jan. During this time, the building was expanded and a representative entrance hall was installed on the ground floor. The architecture of the entrance hall followed models from Northern Europe. Remains of this building from the 16th century are still visible on a stone next to the entrance portal. This shows a coat of arms with the inscription Jan Lubom (for Jan Lubomelski) and the year 1540 . Jan Lubomelski was a member of the Lublin City Council in 1528 and later in the 16th century mayor of Lublin himself.
Paintings
During renovations in 1996, numerous remains of paintings were uncovered on the ground floor. These paintings from the 16th century disappeared during renovations in the 18th century under plaster and a newly built vault. This vault no longer exists and is indicated by a modern wooden construction. Behind it, remains of the medieval paintings are now visible again.
On the paintings, among others, Mikołaj Lubomelski is presumably shown in a scene on the east wall as a knight with a coat of arms in a battle. Below this scene is the Church of St. Michael , which was demolished in 1857 , as well as the Grodzka Gate and the Dominican Church . Behind these buildings there is a representation of a defensive system, probably the Lublin Castle . On the west wall there is a painting of a Madonna with baby Jesus on a throne, surrounded by flower ornaments.
In the building's wine cellar there are other, partly frivolous, paintings from the years 1560 to 1580.
