Polish scientists named it in 1980. It is named after the Polish engineer Maciej Rzepecki, a participant in the Polish Antarctic expedition, which was carried out from 1980 to 1981 and during which he wintered in 1981 at the Arctowski station , where he was deputy station manager from 1980 to 1981 .
