As genus IX or IX designated Royal Saxon State Railways four-coupled Schlepptender locomotives for freight service.

history

The locomotives were put into service after the Sächsische IV vehicles could not meet the expectations placed on them. At the rear of the locomotive, a hollow axle of the Klien-Lindner type was installed and initially a long steam collecting pipe above the middle of the boiler, which was replaced in later models by two steam domes with a connecting pipe. 20 machines were supplied by Hartmann as wet steam machines, another 30 with a Schmidt smoke tube superheater.

The Deutsche Reichsbahn took over 16 of the first vehicles and gave them the company numbers 56 501–56 516. From the second series, 25 with the company numbers 56 601–56 625 were taken over.

The vehicles were Tender senders of types SAE 3 T 9, T 12 SAE 3 or SAE 3 T 13 equipped.
