Sève Feu de Joie

Sève Feu de Joie is a liqueur based on eau de vie - distilled from wine - which is also used as a raw material for making cognac , and almond kernel extracts . In addition, other herbal plants and chemical flavorings ( benzaldehyde ) are probably added to round off the aroma - the exact recipe is a secret. Together with the Pineau des Charentes , Sève Feu de Joie is one of the typical products of the Charente . Its taste is similar to the Italian amaretto with additional notes of plum and vanilla, but has a significantly higher alcohol content (32–35% by volume).

The basic recipe dates back to 1847, since 1898 the liqueur has been made in the specially built Léopold Brugerolles distillery in Matha ( Charente-Maritime department ). No information is available about storage and maturing time.
