The Søbstadklubben are rock carvings in Averøy on the island of Averøya in Fylke Møre og Romsdal in Norway .

During the Stone Age , Søbstadklubben was an island in its own right and the carvings were near the water. Due to the postglacial land elevation , the scratches are now 12.5 to 16.0 m above sea level. This means that the age of the rock carvings can be determined to be around 6000 years. Back then, people were hunters and gatherers and fishermen.

Petroglyphs

The scratch field was discovered 30 years ago. Archaeologists believed that some of the carvings on Averøya are among the oldest in the county. Many of the 17 pictures depict boats, birds and whales. The whale motifs are the best known.

In 1992 a new field with rock carvings was discovered on Averøya. The carvings on Røsandberget are difficult to find. Only under special lighting conditions is it possible to recognize the figures, which show both land and sea mammals. The rock carvings on Røsandberget were created over a long period of time. Some are older, others contemporary and some younger than in Søbstadklubben.

The island is home to Håkkårøysa , Kvernes stave church and Kvernes Tingsted stone circle .
