action
The choir festival is presented by the soprano Angela Kerrison, who brings together the different choirs and thus the different musical styles of South Africa.
Choir festivals have a long tradition in South Africa's townships . The project not only reflects the musical diversity of the South African choral culture, but also makes it possible to cross the borders that are still present in South Africa despite the overcoming of apartheid . Choir director Leon Starker, for example, still wants more black singers in his choir. But art and culture are very expensive in South Africa, so that the black population is less likely to be able to participate due to their often precarious economic situation. South African society is still divided. The Cape Festival wants to raise awareness of this fact among the South African public.
Participating in the choir festival are u. a. the Pro Cantu Youth Choir, the Comart Youth Choir, the Chamber Choir of South Africa, the Kenmere Primary School Choir and Bongani Magatyana's Youth Choir. The highlight of the festival was the joint appearance of all choirs with the freedom song “Ukuthula” (“Live in Peace”).
