The cemetery of honor in the Catholic part of the cemetery is one of the largest of 34 war cemeteries in the city of Hamm, where a total of 2,056 dead from both world wars were buried. According to the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge, 160 dead from the First and 1,115 dead from the Second World War lie in the southern cemetery , in particular: 759 Germans, 452 Soviet citizens, 19 French, 16 Poles, 10 Dutch, 9 Italians, 4 Belgians, 2 Yugoslavs, 1 Greek, 1 Lithuanian, 1 Austrian and a stranger. In 1950 an obelisk was erected in memory of the 458 Soviet soldiers and civilians who perished in Hamm. On May 21, 1997, the burial of three members of an airplane crew attracted particular media interest, whose bodies could only be recovered 53 years after the crash near Bokel in Schleswig-Holstein , after only sham burials had been carried out in 1944 to cover up the cause of the crash.
