Sweeteners
Sweeteners are natural or synthetic sugar substitutes ( additives ) that give foods with a certain sugar content a sweet taste or are used as table sweeteners . Sugars ( monosaccharides and disaccharides ) are not considered to be sweeteners under food law because they are not food additives.
The Additive Approval Ordinance divides approved natural and synthetic additives in Germany into sugar substitutes and sweeteners .
