Sırrı Sakık

Sırrı Sakık (born August 1, 1957 in Yörecik , Muş ) is a former member of Kurdish descent in the Turkish parliament and was mayor of the eastern Anatolian city of Ağrı from 2014 to March 31, 2019 .

He is a member of the Barış ve Demokrasi Partisi (BDP, Party for Peace and Democracy) and the brother of Şemdin Sakık , who was a senior PKK official .

He used to work in tourism and was a reporter for Cumhuriyet and Vatan newspapers . Sakık was a founding member of the Demokrasi Partisi (DEP) and the Demokratik Toplum Partisi (DTP). After the DTP closed in 2009, he joined the BDP.

He won his first parliamentary mandate in the 1991 elections . He won again in the 2007 and 2011 parliamentary elections . In the local elections in March 2014 , Sakık ran for the post of mayor of the eastern Anatolian city of Ağrı. The election was canceled and repeated on June 1st. Sakık won the elections and resigned his parliamentary mandate.

Sakık is a widower and has three children; his son Sidar committed suicide in September 2012. He lost his wife Gülsima (* 1963) to cancer in 2007 .
