The Sōfuku-ji ( Japanese 崇 福寺 ) is a Buddhist temple in Nagasaki , Japan . It was built in 1629 by emigrants from the Chinese province of Fujian who fled the political turmoil towards the end of the Ming Dynasty and belongs to the Ōbaku-shū of Zen Buddhism.

Two of the buildings of Sōfuku-ji are national treasures of Japan : the Daiippō-mon ( 第一 峰 門 ; one of the three gates of the temple, all of which have inscriptions that are said to come from the Zen master Ingen) and the Daiyū Hōden ( 大雄宝殿 ; the Buddha Hall). The Buddha Sakyamuni is venerated in the Daiyū Hōden . The Daiyū Hōden was built in 1646, the Daiippō-mon in 1629; they are the oldest structures still in existence in Nagasaki.

The Obon Festival held in the temple is attended by many Chinese people across Japan each year.
