Samuel Noah Kramer
Samuel Noah Kramer ( September 28, 1897 in Kiev Governorate - November 26, 1990 in Philadelphia ) was an American sumerologist . He studied at the University of Pennsylvania and began his research trips in 1930.
His best-known work is The Story Begins With Sumer . The Samuel Noah Kramer Institute of Assyriology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at Bar Ilan University in Ramat Gan , Israel is named after him. In 1971 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a corresponding member of the British Academy . The American Philosophical Society honored him in 1987 with their Benjamin Franklin Medal .
