SAND (database system)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SAND (Spatial And Non-spatial Data) is a database management system that was developed at the University of Maryland, College Park in the late 1990s . At its core, it consists of a relational data model that has been expanded with geometric functions and a spatial index in order to optimize the access time to space-related (spatial) data. The data can be addressed via the embedded script language Tcl or a graphical user interface. A specially created transmission protocol also enables access from remote workstation computers.
