Lists on the subject |
The SAN 511 , or earlier OM 50 Nemesis , is an anti-materiel rifle from the Swiss manufacturer Swissarms Neuhausen AG in the 12.7 × 99 mm NATO caliber .
history
The SAN 511 was developed by the American James B. Owens, a former member of the United States Marine Corps , and the Swiss Chris L. Movigliatti, the founder of Advanced Military System Design (AMSD), under the name OM 50 "Nemesis" . OM stands for the initials of the last names of the two developers and 50 denotes the caliber .50 BMG (12.7 × 99 mm). In Greek mythology, the name Nemesis stands for the goddess of "righteous anger" and the one who punishes "heartless lovers". Six prototypes were developed before the design for the OM 50 Nemesis was finalized.
In December 2010, the rights to the weapon, drawings, machines and tools for manufacturing were sold to Swissarms Neuhausen AG , which renamed the weapon SAN 511.
description
The SAN 511 is a repeating rifle . There is a Picatinny rail on the lock housing for attaching various target optics. The pistol grip and the trigger unit are based on the M-16 / AR-15 . With the fire selector switch you can choose between safe and single fire . The replaceable barrel is flooded. Various lengths (17.5, 23.5, 27.5, 32 and 37.5 inches ) are available. The piston can be adjusted in length and, using a cheek rest, in height. The weapon has a permanently mounted bipod. The bolt housing is made of an aluminum alloy, the bolt locks directly in the barrel. The chamber lock has three locking lugs.
variants
Mk. I
The Nemesis Mk. I is a single-shot weapon . It was only available with a free-swinging 698 mm (27.5 in) barrel that can be fitted with an optional muffler. It is no longer in production.
Mk. II
The Mk. II is a multi-loading weapon with a 5-round magazine. The piston is foldable and it is equipped with a ground spur . A short Picatinny rail is attached to the lock housing on both sides. The Mk. II is delivered with a bipod. The barrel lock is also new and only available on the Mk. II.
Mk. III
The former Nemesis Mk. III is now produced as the only variant SAN 511-2. Except for the modified fore-end and the missing barrel lock, it is identical to the Mk. II.
