SCHEMA ST4 |
SCHEMA ST4 (often short ST4 is called) a professional content management system for creating and managing product information (manuals, catalogs, loose-leaf publications, online help).
history
The software has been developed since 2001 in the C # programming language based on the .NET Framework . In 2003, it replaced the SchemaText 3 editorial system that had been developed by the SCHEMA Group until then.
Working method
As a client / server-based system, the data is stored in a relational database. For this purpose, the information is divided into individual information modules (called nodes) in a RichClient and stored in the database as XML data in a media-neutral manner. The nodes are connected to complex information units via relational relationships (links).
The individual information modules are stored component-related or subject-related in an information pool and then put together via links to documents. Due to their media-neutral XML storage, these documents can be transformed into various target formats (PDF, RTF, HTML, HTMLHelp, DITA, ...). The concepts of single source publishing are used here.
particularities
In addition to an open API for access to the object model , the data and the components of the software, the system provides an interpreter for data access on an XML basis. SCHEMA ST4 Transformation, or STT for short, is a programming language for accessing and transforming data that is stored in "SCHEMA ST4". The goal of the transformation is XML data that can be further processed with standard languages such as XSLT . STT is based on XSLT 1.0 in terms of syntax and functionality, but includes extensions from XSLT 2.0 and EXSLT. The source is not an “XML Document Object” model, but the “ST4 Object” model. In order to be able to access the entire object model, in addition to the axes available in XSL (such as child :: *, parent :: *, attribute :: *), further axes have been introduced for navigation (such as class: : * or outgoinglink :: *).
