SDL Trados Studio
SDL Trados Studio is a computerized translation program . The program initiated by Trados is being further developed and distributed by the SDL Group.
Development and versions
The most important previous versions published by Trados were Trados Translation Solution Freelance Edition 3 (1999) and the versions Trados 5 (2001) and Trados 6 (2003).
The immediate predecessor SDL Trados 2007 consisted of several separate applications. This included Translator's Workbench , TagEditor and SDLX . The programs were started individually, but were linked to one another by key combinations. The TagEditor (* .ttx) and SDLX (* .itd) file formats were only partially compatible with each other.
The * .ttx format used by the TagEditor could also be edited with third-party programs (using a corresponding macro in Microsoft Word ).
The first version of the program - SDL Trados Studio 2009 - mainly contained new modules, including improvements to the user interface and localization. In addition, a new translation memory database format was introduced. This SQLite- based format could be edited and manipulated by third-party programs. For the first time in this version, the function for expanding the functionalities via various programs ( apps ) was introduced.
Other versions were SDL Trados Studio 2011, SDL Trados Studio 2014, SDL Trados Studio 2015 and SDL Trados Studio 2017.
New features of the SDL Trados Studio 2017 version were the self-learning machine translation tool AdaptiveMT, as well as various further developments. The version can also be expanded with programs from the SDL Appstore.
The current version is SDL Trados Studio 2019. New in this version were the "Tell me" function, which grants users faster access to functions and settings, as well as an integrated learning environment, a revised project assistant, language-specific quality checks, a revised translation memory Editor and an improved alignment.
