SESVanderHave is a sugar beet seed breeder based in Belgium. The name came from the previous companies SES Europe and DJ VanderHave . The French Florimond Desprez group has now taken over the sugar beet seed activities of the Advanta group .
SESVanderHave has its production facilities both in Tienen , Belgium , and in Kiev . From there, the seeds are marketed in around 50 countries.
The company has developed sugar beet varieties that are resistant to herbicides from the acetolactate synthase inhibitor class .
History of VanderHave
The company DJ Vander Have was founded in Zeeland in 1879 . Since 1941 they have been dealing with sugar beet seeds. In 1977 the company was sold to Cosun .
History of SES
SES Europe was founded in 1948 as SBGB (Société Belge de Graine de Betterave Sucrière). Forced by problems resulting from the world war, the Belgian sugar manufacturers set up their own seed business. In 1972 the SBGB merged with an Italian seed company and renamed itself SES. In 1987 SES was taken over by the British company ICI . In 1993 ICI decided to outsource some activities and named the company Zeneca . Shortly thereafter, in 1996, Zeneca and Royal Cosun merged. This created Advanta , the fifth largest seed company in the world.
