SFJazz
SFJAZZ is a 1983 San Francisco founded Jazz bundles organization and non-profit organization that jazz activities in the area of San Francisco. She holds jazz concerts in her SFJazz Center, organizes the San Francisco Jazz Festival, provides performance and practice facilities for local musicians, and is active in jazz education.
The organization was founded in 1983 by Randall Klein, who still leads SFJazz in 2015, as Jazz in the City to organize the SF Jazz Festival .
The SFJazz Center (201 Franklin Street in the Hayes Valley District of San Francisco) opened in 2013. In addition to a large concert hall ( Robert N. Milner Auditorium with 700 seats) there are rehearsal rooms (in particular the Joe Henderson Lab ). The construction cost was $ 64 million, largely raised through private donations, and the architect was Mark Cavagnero .
The all-star band SFJazz Collective was founded in 2004 as part of the organization and was then led by Joshua Redman .
The San Francisco Jazz Festival has been held annually for two or three weeks since 1983 (then called Jazz in the City) with over 30 concerts at different venues in the city. It originally took place in late October to early November, currently in June.
