The SG Empor Pankow 49 e. V. can look back in its history to the year 1893. On April 1st, 1893 , the BFCC Rapide Niederschönhausen 1893 was founded in Niederschönhausen , today part of the Berlin district of Pankow .

After the end of the Second World War , the BFC Rapide, like all sports clubs in Berlin, was dissolved at the instigation of the occupying powers. In order to be able to continue the sports operations, the formation of loosely organized sports communities (SG) was allowed. As a replacement for the BFC Rapide, the SG Niederschönhausen was founded in 1945, which initially only appeared with football. From October 1945 she took part in the soccer championship in the northern section of Berlin and from 1946/47 played in the second-class amateur league Berlin. In June 1949, the people of Niederschönhausen reassumed the historical name Rapide and now started as SG Rapide Niederschönhausen.

In the summer of 1950, due to the introduction of the contract player system by the Association of Berliner Ballspielvereine, at the instigation of the German Sports Committee, the East Berlin soccer teams were withdrawn from the entire Berlin leagues and incorporated into the GDR league system. The SG Rapide was assigned to the national class , the highest East Berlin division and the 3rd league in GDR football. After the introduction of the district leagues as a result of the abolition of the states in the GDR, the Niederschönhausen players played in the Berlin district league in 1952/53. At the beginning of 1953, the SG Rapide was converted into a company sports association (BSG) , received the local trade as a carrier company and consequently the name "BSG Empor Pankow". The expanded range of sports (including tennis) was organized into individual sections. The BSG Empor footballers did not manage to stay in the district league and had to compete in the fourth-class Berlin district from the 1953/54 season. They were only able to stay there for three seasons before they sank into the third East Berlin league, the first soccer class, for four years in 1956. Between 1961 and 1966, the BSG Empor played again in the city class, before the football section was dissolved in 1967 after relegation.

In the meantime, the BSG Empor had been expanded by further sports sections since 1963, the sports gymnastics, handball, bowling and tennis were now offered. In the 1970s, the sections athletics, cycling, table tennis and volleyball were added. At this time, the handball section made a name for itself through its work with young talent, at times up to 18 teams were in competition. The women's team played from 1977 to 1988 in the handball district league Berlin. In the GDR-wide FDGB handball cup, the Empor women reached the second main round in 1980 and 1981. The future handball world champion Evelyn Hübscher began her career at BSG Empor as did the national player Cordula Davis. The handball section also included Herbert Schulz, one of the most famous referees in the GDR handball league . The cycling section made cycling especially popular in East Berlin. In 1977 she achieved the most kilometers in the competition of 23 cycling sections in the GDR.

As a result of the economic changes after the political change of 1989/90 , the system of company sports associations in the GDR collapsed in 1990, on the other hand the formation of registered associations was possible again. Members of the BSG Empor used this to convert the BSG into the Sportgemeinschaft Empor Treptow 49 e. V. to reorganize. The sports program was reduced to the handball, gymnastics and volleyball departments. The handball department had to be dissolved in 2013 and the volleyball players had to reduce their activities to recreational sports.
