The Hasdeo is a left tributary of the Mahanadi in central India .

The Hasdeo rises in the north of the state of Chhattisgarh in the district of Koriya . The headwaters are 10 km north of the village of Sonhat at an altitude of about 900  m . The river flows past Sonhat. It flows initially in a southerly direction, later in a westerly direction in river loops through the mountains. After 50 km the Hasdeo turns south again. It overcomes the Amritdhara waterfall 17 km north of the city of Chirmiri . The Hasdeo flows east past Manendragarh . After a stretch of 190 km, the river is dammed by the 87 m high Minimata Bango dam . The Hasdeo is backed up 60 km. After another 30 km, the Hasdeo is dammed above the city of Korba by the 17 m high Hasdeo barrage . There some of the water is drained through irrigation channels. The Hasdeo continues to flow in a southerly direction. The city of Champa is on the left bank of the river. The Hasdeo finally flows into the Mahanadi, which flows eastwards, 10 km north of the small town of Bilaigarh . The Hasdeo has a length of 330 km. It drains an area of ​​10,406 km².
