The Fédération Internationale des Géomètres ( FIG ; German International Association of Surveying Engineers ) is a global umbrella organization of surveying engineers - mainly for those geodesists who work as civil engineers under private law .
The FIG was founded in 1878 by professional organizations from Belgium, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Spain and Switzerland and primarily promotes international cooperation between surveying and its professional organizations, interdisciplinary cooperation between geodesy and other geosciences and technical progress, etc. . a. through its own commissions , congresses , workshops and publications . It also strives for common standards in professional practice and training at technical colleges and universities on.
The umbrella organization is a non-governmental organization recognized by the UN and works in their development programs ( UN Habitat , FAO ).
Working method
The FIG is divided into 10 commissions, each of which covers one work area (the chairperson in italics):

- Commission 10: Construction Industry and Management; Philip Shearer (Great Britain)
International projects are a multi-lingual technical dictionary , history of geodesy and grants for developing countries .
Cooperation partner
The International Science Council (ICSU) and various professional organizations are also important international partners . These include u. a. the following associations:

Members
The members of the FIG are 79 regional associations (230,000 geodesists), some institutions and individual members. You work in 9 commissions, which are sent by experts from the associations . The DVW is the German member association of FIG.
