SKY (university)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SKY is an acronym and collective term to jointly designate the three prestigious South Korean universities Seoul National University , Korea University and Yonsei University . The term is widely used in the South Korean media and also by the universities concerned. In the everyday language of South Koreans, the word SKY-Dae (SKY-Uni [s]) has established itself as a synonym for “South Korean elite university”.

Admission to one of the SKY universities is seen in South Korea as decisive for a professional career or social status. In fact, many politicians, lawyers, doctors, engineers, university professors or MPs have degrees from one of the SKY universities. A review of the 500 largest Korean companies in 2014 showed that at that time more than half (more precisely 296) of the total of 586 Chief Executive Officers of these companies were alumni of the three SKY universities.
