SK Siltron , a former subsidiary of the LG Group , is a manufacturer of ultra - pure silicon wafers based in Gumi , South Korea .

Siltron, formerly Dongbu Electronic and Communications Co., was founded in 1983. The name was changed to Siltron in 1990 when it was taken over by "Lucky Advanced Materials Inc.". The company manufactures wafers with a diameter of 150 to 450 mm in Gumi and Incheon and is the fourth largest manufacturer of 300 mm wafers. In addition to polished wafers, epitaxial wafers are also produced; part of the production takes place for the solar industry (solar wafers).

In January 2017, LG and SK Holding announced that the 51% shares held by LG Electronics would be taken over by SK Holding. After the takeover, the company was renamed SK Siltron Inc. in August 2017.

The remaining shares are held by KTB Network Co. Ltd. and Vogo Investment Fund , two Korean private equity firms . This took over the shares in 2006 from Dongbu Steel .
