SMOLED

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SMOLED (also: SOLED; actually " small molecule organic LED ") describes a type of organic LEDs that differ from polymeric OLEDs in the manufacturing process.

With SMOLEDs, the organic layers are usually evaporated onto the anode in a vacuum. The high temperature can be used because the short molecules are stable.

In the case of polymeric OLEDs, the organic layer is applied from a solution to the layer underneath and the solvent is then evaporated. Temperatures that are too high would cause the long-chain polymers to break down.
