SMS gateway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An SMS gateway allows SMS messages to be sent and received using devices other than cell phones .

Dispatch (gateways to SMS)

There are several ways to send an SMS message without a mobile phone:

Web service after SMS

The message and recipient are entered in the web browser via a website . This function is often offered by freemail portals as a chargeable additional service or is financed by advertising that is attached to the message.

HTTP call to SMS

This method is a programming interface for applications. It enables SMS to be sent from programs, for example for important error messages, bulk mailing of advertisements or for writing individual messages in a desktop application .

SMPP to SMS

Another possibility is the SMPP interface, which is used for a direct connection and extremely fast transmission of a large number of messages. In addition to the HTTP interface, these offer the option of changing or deleting short messages that have already been fed in before they are sent.

Email after SMS

An email is converted into an SMS. Often used for server monitoring and notification services. This service is now also used in public areas, where important messages are made available immediately, specifically and on-site as SMS to several addressees at the same time.

Reception (SMS to the gateway)

SMS to email

With the help of the SMS to e-mail service , you can send e-mails even without internet access, provided you have access to a cellular network. Due to the enormous cost of SMS and the relatively inexpensive Internet access via GSM, this method is hardly widespread anymore, while it was of certain importance in the early 2000s, when mobile Internet was even more expensive than SMS. Most service providers in the US and Europe, as well as newer cell phones, support sending e-mails through such gateways by default.

SMS to the fixed network

With the SMS to the fixed network service , the recipient of the SMS is called on their fixed network telephone. The text of the SMS is then heard using a synthetic voice. However, SMS messages received after 11 p.m. at Deutsche Telekom and Anny Way are no longer delivered on the same evening, but Mon – Fri at 7 a.m. and Sat, Sun and public holidays at 8 a.m. the following morning, which causes the recipient to be unintentionally woken up can. In addition, if you hang up prematurely, the call is repeated.

If the phone supports the receipt of SMS, you can also set the SMS to be displayed as a text message on the phone. The SMS is delivered immediately.
