Servicio Oficial de Difusión Radio Eléctrica
Sodre ( acronym from long forms that change over time and are no longer used in communication today, such as Servicio Oficial de Difusión Radio Eléctrica and Servicio Oficial de Difusión, Radiotelevisión y Espectáculos ) is a national cultural institution and at the same time the Uruguayan public radio . Sodre produces the radio programs. Sodre is under the Ministry of Culture and Education.
history
Sodre was originally founded in 1929 to set up radio in Uruguay. Today, Sodre hosts the four programs Uruguay 1050 AM (word program), Babel 97.1 FM (jazz, world music, etc.), Clásica 650 AM (classical music; a direct result of the first Sodre program broadcast from 1930) and Emisora del Sur (Latin American Music).
In 1955 Sodre began with the first experimental television broadcasts, which in 1963 led to a regular program service. In 2002 television was separated from Sodre. Since then it has operated as an independent institution, Televisión Nacional Uruguay .
Shortly after it was founded, Sodre's tasks were expanded to include music and dance ensembles . The OSSODRE symphony orchestra and the Conjunto de Música de Cámara chamber ensemble have existed since 1931, and the Choir ( Coro del Sodre ) and the Ballet Nacional del Sodre since 1935 .
The original venue of the Sodre ensembles in Montevideo was the Teatro Urquiza , which was renamed the Estudio Auditorio del Sodre in 1931 . On September 18, 1971, a fire destroyed the building. The fire also destroyed the holdings of the music library in Sodre, which was until then the largest in South America.
In 1985, Minister of Culture Adela Reta reached a decision in parliament for a replacement building. Construction began in 1989, but the work was halted several times for long periods of time. The new theater building was not completed until 2008 and was named Auditorio Nacional Adela Reta in honor of its initiator and opened on November 21, 2009 (see Complejo del Sodre ).
The position of President of SODRE was occupied in 2012 by Fernando Buttazzoni , the director of the ballet is former dancer Julio Bocca .
