SPG Walter Wels
The SPG Walter Wels is a Bundesliga table tennis club from Wels . The game community was founded in 1988 between the two table tennis sections of the Union and ASKÖ Wels.
After being promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1999, in 2005 they were promoted to the top Austrian division, the 1st Bundesliga. In the first year they could just avoid relegation, but in the following season they managed to get into the championship play-off with 3rd place, where they lost to SVS Niederösterreich . In 2008 the second team made it from the Upper Austrian regional league to the 2nd Bundesliga. In 2010, as in 2009, they reached second place in the Bundesliga behind the SPG Raika Ligist / Don Bosco Graz , but only the individual game ratio decided here and in 2010 the decision was only made in the direct duel in the last round.
Between 1992 and 2007 the syndicate was able to achieve several Upper Austrian and Austrian junior championships in singles and doubles.
In the 2011/2012 season, the championship title was won in the 1st Austrian Bundesliga for the first time. You could prevail in the decisive game against Askö Mauthausen. Also in the semi-finals of the playoffs they won against Mauthausen, but they lost in the final against SVS Niederösterreich.
In the 2013/14 season, however, it was possible to beat serial champions SVS NÖ with a 4-0 in the final tournament of the Austrian Bundesliga and thus bring the Austrian championship cup to Wels for the first time.
Today (2014) the club takes part in the OÖTTV championships in addition to the teams in the national leagues with 7 teams.
In addition, SPG WALTER Wels played in the highest European table tennis league , the European Champions League, for the first time in the 2013/14 season and made it to the semifinals of the ETTU Cup in the same season, where they had to admit defeat to the German table tennis club TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen .
