SPK (band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SPK (also spelled SPK , SPK , SPK and similar) were an influential Australian industrial band. The abbreviation SPK interpreted the band with almost any publication differently: System Planning Corporation , Surgical Penis Klinik , seppuku (see Seppuku ) or Socialistisches patient population (see Socialist Patients' Collective ).

history

The band was formed in 1978 in Sydney by Graeme Revell , who worked as a nurse in a mental hospital, Neil Hill , an outpatient schizophrenia patient at the clinic, and Sinan, Graeme Revell's future wife.

Neil Hill, who changed his name to Ne / H / il , committed suicide in February 1984. In addition to the three founding members, a number of other musicians played in the band at times. B. Brian Williams , better known as lust murder , or the multi-instrumentalist John Murphy (often also called Jonh Murphy ). Gradually, however, SPK became more and more of a solo project by Revell.

style

The appearances of SPK from the beginning are legendary. B. film recordings from pathology were shown, which sometimes caused a shock in the audience.

The first publications, up to Leichenschrei , are mostly disturbing, monotonous, noisy sound collages, underlaid with voices and screams. The content at this stage often revolves around mental and physical illness, death and human decline. They published their subversive, nihilistic philosophy in radical manifestos as supplements to their albums, including B. The Post-Industrial Strategy or The Administration of Death .

The following albums became more melodic with the increasing use of synthesizers , right up to the danceable synth-pop of Machine Age Voodoo .

In between is the album Zamia Lehmanni - Songs of Byzantine Flowers from 1986, a work full of mystical, pathos-rich sound structures. Here Graeme Revell's compositional skills were shown, which later made him a successful film composer in Hollywood . This album, released under the band name, was recorded, recorded and produced by himself.

In the same year he released the album The Insect Musicians under his own name , which contains songs composed from insect sounds.

Others

In 1982 SPK played together with the German avant-garde band Die Tödliche Doris in the Berlin club SO36 and Graeme Revell published the setting of the compositions of the Swiss artist Adolf Wölfli in 1986 as a joint project with DDAA + Nurse with Wound .
