In the 1996/1997 season of the national street hockey league A (NLA), the SHC Bernese Oberland secured the championship title for the first time in history. After qualifying, the two participants in the play-off final were determined in an intermediate round. The SHC Scheuren and the SHC Nidau were relegated in sport. The newcomers were the SHC Bettlach, the SHC Gäu Bandits Hägendorf and the SHC Alchenflüh.
