In the 1996/1997 season of the national street hockey league A (NLA), the SHC Bernese Oberland secured the championship title for the first time in history. After qualifying, the two participants in the play-off final were determined in an intermediate round. The SHC Scheuren and the SHC Nidau ​​were relegated in sport. The newcomers were the SHC Bettlach, the SHC Gäu Bandits Hägendorf and the SHC Alchenflüh.
